Clients Running More Now? Give Them This Program!

Published on April 9, 2020 By Sherri

We are experiencing a global pandemic and with our fitness clubs closed and most of our clients are confined to their homes with very little options for exercise. Many of our clients are not easily detoured from their commitment to their workouts and are recognizing that they still need to do something physical to maintain their physical fitness, stress release, mental health and maintain the strength of their immune system. Hopefully many of your clients have have opted for virtual indoor workouts with you and your staff, while others have probably taken to running outdoors.

We are positioned to experience a massive running boom that would rival the 1970’s Forest Gump surge that had everyone sporting their sneakers and pounding the pavement. Spring is here, summer is on the way and running is a wonderful way to get some fresh air, vitamin D and relieve some stress.

Your Clients Can Run Faster!

Published on July 10, 2018 By Sherri

Have clients who want to train to be faster runners? Here are some tips and tricks that I use with my clients (and for my own training).

First, if you want to get fast, you have to train fast.

Makes sense right?  The good news is though, not every workout needs to be a hard, speed workout. Make sure, when building your client’s workout schedule…to incorporate a faster run/walk just 1-2 times per week. Your clients will start to notice that they are running (or walking) faster in no time! The first goal is for clients to improve their leg turnover speed and get their muscles accustomed to contracting more quickly.

Generate Revenue With a Running Program

Published on June 14, 2018 By Sherri
Consider this. With each running stride, your body is forced to absorb impact forces as great as 3x your body weight. So if you weigh 150 pounds, imagine 450 pounds of force pounding through your muscles, bones, ligaments and tendons with each foot strike. You can imagine that over the course of a five-mile run, the amount of force the body absorbs is tremendous. Due to the nature of the sport, specific imbalances and areas of weakness can result. For these reasons, proper progression is critical if you expect to continue running on a long-term basis.

Today we will focus on the importance of stretching for runners!

Now send your clients this info and then ask them to join you for YOUR running program!

Last week, we reviewed the importance of running technique and discussed how muscle tightness can affect your running mechanics.  So this week and next, we will focus on various mobility and release techniques to keep you running strong and injury free. Today, I’m going to start with wall stretching which is a very relaxing way to release and since most runners are super tight to begin with, they are more likely to do it since it’s not so painful!

Complete the following stretching program after each run or workout.  Hold each stretch for at least 30 seconds – ideally longer.  And remember, hold each stretch to the point of tension – not pain!

stretch wall hamstringsHamstring on the wall:

Lie on your back with your hips close to the wall and your legs positioned straight up against the wall. To make the stretch less intense, move your hips a few inches away from the wall.  To make the stretch more intense, keep your hips positioned right up against the wall and wrap a towel around your feet and lightly pull your legs a few inches away from the wall.  Feel your stretch in the muscles at the back of your upper leg.  Hold this stretch for as long as you feel comfortable – minimum 30 seconds each leg and ideally longer.  Try to relax and breathe in to the stretch.  Feel free to read a magazine or watch T.V. while holding this stretch.  This is a great stretch to do after a run because it assists in the recovery process as blood is flushed from the legs back to the heart.

Today, I wanted to talk about a running program that will help improve your performance as a runner.  Although most participants are just happy to get to the finish line of these events, there is a number of people that really want to work on their speed.

If you want to get fast, you have to train fast.

Now send your clients this info and then ask them to join you for YOUR running program!

Even if you do everything right, sometimes you still experience nagging aches and pains during your training program.  So what should you do if you find yourself in pain?

As we mentioned earlier, running is a high-impact sport and unfortunately, you may be forced to deal with the symptoms of an injury or an injury-just-waiting to happen.  In the event that this happens, you need to know exactly what to do to hopefully “nip it in the bud”.  If you find yourself experiencing any form of pain around the hip, knee, shins or feet, treat it immediately.  Injuries left untreated, can become chronic and seriously affect your ability to continue with your training program.
