Virtually Track Client Results

Published on April 30, 2020 By Sherri

During this time where most of us are conducting virtual training sessions….tracking client results can be challenging. We encourage our clients to track their results in other ways than just looking at the numbers on the scale. Some ways for clients to track results at home is to regularly measure the major areas of the body, take before and after pictures, weigh themselves (but only once per week) and use a body fat scale (if available).

Here is a video that I put together before social distancing and COVID-19. The video gives detailed instructions on how to measure major areas of the body etc. Go ahead and share this with your clients!

Commitment. Results. Retention.

Published on August 15, 2019 By Sherri

It is clear that the road to retaining clients is all about results! When clients are seeing results they are more likely to stick around. In order to see results….a big commitment needs to be made (by both you and your client), so (naturally)the first step is for both of you to make a commitment….and I mean a real commitment.

Check out how we do this:

Make It Official

Here at Northwest Personal Training each new client signs a Fitness & Training Commitment. This signed agreement serves as a reminder of the commitment that they have made to themselves and to provide a list of the health behaviors that we will help them to adopt over the next few weeks (and for the rest of their lives). Do you have a fitness & training commitment that your clients sign? If not, try using something like this:

Competition Creates Results – Weight Loss Challenges

Published on March 12, 2019 By Sherri

Our annual 6 Week Spring Makeover Challenge allows our clients to participate in a fun, friendly team competition to help them shed that extra layer that many of us put on during the cold, dark rainy days of winter. A couple of weeks ago I explained how we run our Makeover Challenge….this week I want to show you how our trainers work together (and against each other ;)) to make the Makeover Challenge a success.

Each of our trainers recruit team members and they all compete against each other to see who can ramp it up the most and achieve the best results. There’s nothing like a little peer pressure to get your staff and clients to do what they need to do to reach their goal.

4 Reasons YOU Should Teach Group Training

Published on July 25, 2018 By Sherri

Group Training sounds like a smart idea on paper, but how do you structure programs and sessions for a group of people with all different fitness levels, needs and goals?  And what results can clients expect with only 1/3 to 1/4 of the attention they would normally get from a private trainer?

Yes. They Need To Lift Heavy

Published on November 7, 2017 By Sherri

I am sure you preach the importance of strength training with your clients, but sometimes clients need concrete information on WHY they need to lift weights. So, after talking with them about strength training….follow up with the information below:

“Many physiologists and researchers considering Strength Conditioning to be the true Fountain of Youth – the magic “pill” to reverse or prevent a significant portion of the aging process.

Many of the changes people experience as they age are due to a loss in muscle mass. So if we can maintain a significant amount of muscle tissue as we age, we can expect to age much more slowly.

Let’s look at some of the research and benefits of strength training:

Strength training will increase muscle endurance and strength, improve bone density and posture, boost your metabolism, increase functional capacity, improve your blood pressure and blood lipid levels, decrease joint pain and reduce your risk of falling. In addition, muscle looks good and can improve your overall self esteem and confidence. You’ll move with better strength, balance, coordination and agility and your performance in your recreational pursuits will be enhanced significantly. Read more on Yes. They Need To Lift Heavy…

Are Your Clients Fat AND Fit?

Published on August 1, 2017 By Sherri

We all have clients that tend to carry extra body fat, but we know these same clients have been working hard and are fit. I recently wrote a blog post for our clients on this very topic! Please share this information with your clients….

“Are you carrying a lot of extra body fat? Although our society as a whole tends to fat-shame, the good news is some evidence suggests that fitness is more important that fatness, as the primary factor in reducing someone’s risk for developing various health problems. The message is this…..

…..fitness is very important whether you’re fat or not. In fact, if you are an exerciser who carries a significant amount of body fat, you can still be fitter and healthier than someone who doesn’t exercise at all and may be skinny.

If you’re not working out, you need to start and if you lose weight on the way, which you will if you follow a good workout program, it’ll be a bonus. Read more on Are Your Clients Fat AND Fit?…

Losing Weight Isn’t The Goal

Published on June 14, 2017 By Sherri

GF_2016_FinishlineThe number one reason people will consult with a personal trainer is to help them lose weight. At Northwest Personal Training we like to take a unique approach to helping our clients reach that goal.

Many of our clients start off with this approach – “As soon as I lose the weight or get fit, then I’ll start doing the things I’ve always wanted to do”. But I like to take the opposite approach with my clients…give it a try!

First, have your client set an activity goal (like running a race etc.) and in the process of training for the event or activity your client will get in shape!

And it’s such a positive, motivating focus. For example, let’s say your client sest a goal of finishing a 5km fun run. Setting this kind of goal, because it has a deadline, provides a compelling reason to stick to the program and not miss workouts. In contrast, if your client’s goal is to lose 10 pounds in 2 months, if they get off track, they can easily negotiate with themselves and say, “Well, I guess I can wait an additional week or two to achieve my goals.”  But if they get off track with their training program while preparing for an event, they can’t call a race organizer and ask them to postpone the event because they aren’t going to be ready. You can also use the activity/event as a friendly reminder and a way to push your clients to work with you and stick to the goals you have set.

Weight Loss Challenge: Get The Commitment

Published on April 5, 2017 By Sherri

Fruits-and-Vegetables-1024x819The best way to ensure that your weight loss challenge participants see the results they expect is to clearly state what you expect them to do during the 6 weeks of the challenge and then have them commit to these expectations by signing at the bottom of the list of expectations.

Here is a list of what we ask our weight loss challenge participants to commit to:

Generate Revenue With A Weight Loss Challenge

Published on March 30, 2017 By Sherri

Our most successful “extra” revenue generating program is our Spring Makeover/Weight Loss Challenge. We generate about $20k in extra revenue with this program every spring. I like to remind fit pros of these types of programs and give you the info on how we run this program in a way that helps our clients, our trainers and our bottom line!

Spring MOCYou can read through what we tell our clients about the Spring Makeover Challenge HERE, but here are the basic details:

Program Launch: Wednesday April 19th from 6:45pm – 7:45pm

How does the challenge work?
Everyone will be assigned to a trainer’s group and the groups will compete against each other throughout the challenge. Clients can either be randomly assigned to a trainer’s group or request a certain trainer(s). (See the different groups for this year’s challenge). Clients can do this challenge on their own, by working with a trainer privately or by participating in our Group Training classes. They can make this challenge as self-motivated as they like or they can utilize our services to help them through the process and maximize their results. We encourage clients to come to the studio at least once per week to weigh-in, check their progress, and adjust their behaviors accordingly. Many benefit from daily or every-other-day weigh-ins during this type of weight-loss challenge. We encourage clients to book these weigh-ins into their calendar so they always remember and so we can record and monitor their progress. If clients have any questions or concerns or just need a motivational boost, they can contact their team trainer.  Read more on Generate Revenue With A Weight Loss Challenge…
