Conducting On Floor Peer Reviews

Published on March 16, 2021 By Sherri

One of the tasks that is included in our yearly marketing plan is on floor peer reviews for our personal trainers. If you haven’t included this in your yearly marketing plan it isn’t too late! Remember, your clients expect the very best from you and your team. Spending time reviewing each of your personal trainers (rookies and experienced trainers) helps the them hone in on what is expected of them and allows their peers to give constructive feedback.

Fitness Businesses NEED to be Heard!

Published on March 5, 2021 By Sherri

Fit Pros: I am going to keep this blog short and sweet because the message is simple.

We need to TAKE ACTION and we need to be HEARD!

IHRSA has created a very simple one-click campaign for fitness professionals that allows us to easily communicate with our legislatures to ask for support for the fitness industry. As I am sure you are well aware….our industry has endured the longest closures and greatest restrictions.

Fitness Businesses Need to Act Quickly

Published on November 19, 2020 By Sherri

We recently learned (despite much effort on our part) that fitness facilities in Washington state must close again. I know that many fitness facilities across the country are facing similar shut downs. We are extremely disappointed, but we have to work with what we have and move forward.

I gave these words of encouragement and some action steps to our team:

The only thing we can control is what we control.

Someone told me to think like we are in a boat. We can’t control the weather, the wind, conditions…we can just control what we do with it all.

What is Your Differentiator?

Published on October 30, 2020 By Sherri

Covid 19 has forced us, here at Northwest Personal Training, to rethink and revamp the way we do things. However, even before the pandemic hit, we recognized that our Group Training program shouldn’t be our main focus. Our differentiator is Private Training. There are many business in the fitness industry who do a great job with group training. Businesses such as Orange Theory, Barre, Soul Cycle/Star Cycle and CrossFit are becoming more and more popular.

We know that we shouldn’t be trying to compete with these types of group training options, so we doubled down on marketing our bread and butter….Private Training.

We are known, in our community, as the experts when it comes to Private, Personalized, By Appointment, One-on-one Fitness & Strength Training with World-Class Trainers. Prior to March, we started focusing all of our marketing efforts on Private Training, and now (7 months into the pandemic) we have found that people feel safer in a one-on-one setting where we can more easily control access, flow, disinfecting, distancing etc.

Published on August 14, 2020 By Sherri

Who would have ever thought that fitness organizations would be struggling to survive during a health crisis when our communities need us now more than ever?!

My facility is located in Washington state and we have created a Washington Fitness Alliance with hundreds of Washington clubs, Sports and Recreation Centers and fitness professionals. Our goal is to have a united voice when speaking to our Governor and his task force to assure our needs can be represented effectively.

If you are not in the state of Washington, I would encourage you to create a similar type of alliance in your state or province if one does not currently exist.

If you are located in Washington state, please join our alliance (it’s free) and like our Facebook page for regular updates and communication.

Recognition Goes a Long Way

Published on December 11, 2019 By Sherri

When I was awarded an industry award like IDEA Personal Trainer of the Year or CanFitPro presenter of the year, it was a highlight to my career. It was like the Oscars of the fitness industry.

To be recognized for your contributions provides such a strong sense of accomplishment.

Unfortunately, only one person wins these types of awards every year amongst the hundreds of thousands of trainers out there.

So in our business, at our annual Holiday party, we recognize our team with our own in-house award system that the whole team votes on. In addition, I consider client feedback too. So the votes are now in for our business…

“Empty the pennies from your purse into your mind and your mind will fill your purse with dollars and keep it full forever.” – Ben Franklin

It is no surprise that those who choose to spend the most on continuing education are also those that tend to earn the highest incomes in the fitness industry. So invest in yourself and reap the rewards.

Simple Tips For Program Design

Published on November 14, 2017 By Sherri

Do you ever get these questions from your clients?

  • Is High Intensity Training the way to go?

  • Or is Long, Slow Distance Training better?

  • What cardio exercise brings the best results – is it cycling, rowing, running or something else?

  • What muscle conditioning workouts enhance overall fitness best – is it Bootcamp classes, Barre, Yoga, Pilates or traditional weight training?

If someone decides to get fit and commit to an exercise program, there are a ton of options. It can feel like a kid in a candy store so to speak. That is where you (as a fitness professional come in!). As you know….there’s only so much time in a week so how do you choose what to prescribe to your clients? And how do you explain your reasoning behind doing so?

Here are a couple reminders the best ways to design programming for your clients. Use these tips on your own and share them curious clients.
