It’s January and it’s our crunch time, our ‘make or break’ time. Right now you have the best opportunity to make the biggest impact on a lot of people’s lives. This is when people are thinking about getting back in shape. It’s just human nature that come January people are motivated to start working out and taking better care of themselves.

Recognition Goes a Long Way

Published on December 11, 2019 By Sherri

When I was awarded an industry award like IDEA Personal Trainer of the Year or CanFitPro presenter of the year, it was a highlight to my career. It was like the Oscars of the fitness industry.

To be recognized for your contributions provides such a strong sense of accomplishment.

Unfortunately, only one person wins these types of awards every year amongst the hundreds of thousands of trainers out there.

So in our business, at our annual Holiday party, we recognize our team with our own in-house award system that the whole team votes on. In addition, I consider client feedback too. So the votes are now in for our business…

Simple Tips For Program Design

Published on November 14, 2017 By Sherri

Do you ever get these questions from your clients?

  • Is High Intensity Training the way to go?

  • Or is Long, Slow Distance Training better?

  • What cardio exercise brings the best results – is it cycling, rowing, running or something else?

  • What muscle conditioning workouts enhance overall fitness best – is it Bootcamp classes, Barre, Yoga, Pilates or traditional weight training?

If someone decides to get fit and commit to an exercise program, there are a ton of options. It can feel like a kid in a candy store so to speak. That is where you (as a fitness professional come in!). As you know….there’s only so much time in a week so how do you choose what to prescribe to your clients? Peer Reviews…They Work!

10448648_10152902429888607_5822712832980060118_oAs part of our yearly marketing plan we schedule monthly staff accountability tasks. Some examples might be sending client shoppers in to see how our trainers do with an initial assessment, or a manager picks random client files to audit to make sure client files are being taken care of correctly or having trainers conduct peer reviews. Our staff is given the full marketing plan at the begining of the year so they know which of these accountability tasks will happen each month, but they don’t know when in that month it could happen. You gotta keep them on their toes, but be fair about it too. Having an accountability task each month keeps us on our toes as a business as well. It forces us to review important processes at least once a year….if not more often than that.
