Fitness Businesses Need to Act Quickly

Posted by on November 19, 2020 at 12:42 pm

We recently learned (despite much effort on our part) that fitness facilities in Washington state must close again. I know that many fitness facilities across the country are facing similar shut downs. We are extremely disappointed, but we have to work with what we have and move forward.

I gave these words of encouragement and some action steps to our team:

The only thing we can control is what we control.

Someone told me to think like we are in a boat. We can’t control the weather, the wind, conditions…we can just control what we do with it all.

What is Your Differentiator?

Posted by on October 30, 2020 at 9:39 am

Covid 19 has forced us, here at Northwest Personal Training, to rethink and revamp the way we do things. However, even before the pandemic hit, we recognized that our Group Training program shouldn’t be our main focus. Our differentiator is Private Training. There are many business in the fitness industry who do a great job with group training. Businesses such as Orange Theory, Barre, Soul Cycle/Star Cycle and CrossFit are becoming more and more popular.

We know that we shouldn’t be trying to compete with these types of group training options, so we doubled down on marketing our bread and butter….Private Training.

We are known, in our community, as the experts when it comes to Private, Personalized, By Appointment, One-on-one Fitness & Strength Training with World-Class Trainers. Prior to March, we started focusing all of our marketing efforts on Private Training, and now (7 months into the pandemic) we have found that people feel safer in a one-on-one setting where we can more easily control access, flow, disinfecting, distancing etc.

Self-Care is Not Selfish

“Self-care is not selfish. You cannot serve from an empty vessel.”

This is a quote that every Personal Trainer should keep in mind. Remember, it is important to take care of yourself. It is the only way you can give your clients what they need to succeed. It will allow YOU to succeed as well!

Here is an email I sent to my team about self-care. Maybe you could share it with your team or your co-workers?

Clients Want To Know – Aerobic vs. Anaerobic

Posted by on November 21, 2017 at 10:15 pm
I am sure many of you have come up against clients who question why they need to do cardio exercise. Of course you know the importance of combining aerobic and anaerobic cardio, strength training, stretching and other forms of exercise…but your clients may not. I always like to give my clients the facts about their fitness and do it in a way that is easy to understand and suggest doable ways to accomplish what I am suggesting.

Encourage Clients This Winter!

‘Tis the busy season for most of us in the fitness industry, but sometimes our clients need a little encouragement to keep moving during the cold winter months. Here is what I like to suggest to our clients to keep them moving and coming in to work with our personal trainers this time of year.

In the summer, it’s easier to get outside to cycle, run, walk,or hike but as the weather gets a little colder and the nights a little darker, people spend a lot less time outdoors.  This lack of sunlight often leads to people experiencing Seasonal Affective Disorder (SAD) or the Winter Blues. Fortunately, I, as well as many other fitness enthusiasts, aren’t affected as much as by the winter blues as others are because of many of these tips below. Weight Loss Challenge – Week 4

Posted by on June 20, 2014 at 1:00 pm

Our annual Spring Makeover Challenge allows our clients to participate in a fun, friendly team competition to help them shed that extra winter layer that most of us put in because it’s colder, darker and days are shorter. Each of our trainers have teams and we all compete against each other to see who can ramp it up the most and achieve the best results. There’s nothing like a little peer pressure to get your clients to do what they need to do to reach their goals.

Fill Your Schedule – Encourage Monthly Clients

Posted by on April 11, 2014 at 11:00 am

Clients that come see you for 1 on 1 personal training a couple times a week are the best kinds to get, but not all clients (or potential clients) can, want or need to see you that often. It is a good idea to try to fill the open time slots in your/your staff’s schedule by encouraging clients to see a personal trainer once a month for program updates. How do you encourage that type of client to sign up with you? Send them some of the information below. What better way to encourage folks to come see you than by educating them on why it is so important?
