6 Ways to Keep Clients Motivated

Gyms, yoga studios and pools are closed or slowly reopening. Running and Triathlon races cancelled. It is easy to understand why clients may start to lose their motivation to workout.

As fitness professionals, we all know that the key to maintaining a commitment is to remember the ‘WHY’. Ask your clients …Why do you work out? Why do you race? Remind them that when they dig deep into their motivation, they’ll find that COVID-19 should not affect their ability to stay the course, they may just need to use a different mode of ‘transportation’.

We shared these 6 ways to stay motivated with our clients. Share them with your clients as well.

1. Goals

It’s important to remember that the virus has not cancelled your goals. Ask yourself why you exercise, train and race? Most likely you do it to improve your physical strength and endurance, mental health, weight management, stress release and to boost your immune system. Aren’t all of those things still important, and even more so now?

This week, I will give you a few more tips on how being prepared and honing your skills will make the difference for your fitness business this year.

Be mentally & physically prepared to work hard

You might need to stay late, come in early, work on a weekend. You might be juggling multiple tasks. You might be doing things that aren’t part of your normal job responsibilities. You should be prepared to take phone calls, do tours and be really good at this. Be ready to find out what a clients’ needs are and to show them how you can help them. Be genuine and honest and highlight how much we will take care of them.

This is when people are thinking about getting back in shape. It’s just human nature that come January people are motivated to start working out and taking better care of themselves.

Personal Trainers: Don’t Make This Mistake

The biggest mistake that I see trainers make in a first session with a new client is trying to fit way too much stuff into a one hour time period.

Inevitably they run over time and if they have another client waiting, they rush through or eliminate the most critical aspect of a first session, ‘Finalizing the Sale’.

Team Meetings: Schedule Them Now!

Team meetings are an important part of keeping your team informed about your business, they help you team get to know each other and they are a time to share ideas. If your fitness business is anything like ours….your staff is always coming and going and never on the same schedule. That means that many of our staff will not see each other throughout the month and we are certainly never all together at one time. That is why monthly team meetings are critical for our success.

I know that many fitness businesses struggle to get their staff to attend meetings.
