Recognition Goes a Long Way

Published on December 11, 2019 By Sherri

When I was awarded an industry award like IDEA Personal Trainer of the Year or CanFitPro presenter of the year, it was a highlight to my career. It was like the Oscars of the fitness industry.

To be recognized for your contributions provides such a strong sense of accomplishment.

Unfortunately, only one person wins these types of awards every year amongst the hundreds of thousands of trainers out there.

So in our business, at our annual Holiday party, we recognize our team with our own in-house award system that the whole team votes on. In addition, I consider client feedback too. So the votes are now in for our business…

Clients Ask. What is The Best Exercise?

Published on December 29, 2017 By Sherri

I am sure you have clients that have asked….”what is the best exercise?” Or they may ask…….

….Is High Intensity Training the way to go? Or is Long, Slow Distance Training better? What cardio exercise brings the best results – is it cycling, rowing, running or something else? What muscle conditioning workouts enhance overall fitness best – is it Bootcamp classes, Barre, Yoga, Pilates or traditional weight training?

If someone decides to get fit and commit to an exercise program, there are a ton of options. It can feel like a kid in a candy store so to speak. But there’s only so much time in a week so how do they choose? First, you are there to help. If you want to give them some info to back up your recommendations then send this along to your clients.

Yes. They Need To Lift Heavy

Published on November 7, 2017 By Sherri

I am sure you preach the importance of strength training with your clients, but sometimes clients need concrete information on WHY they need to lift weights. So, after talking with them about strength training….follow up with the information below:

“Many physiologists and researchers considering Strength Conditioning to be the true Fountain of Youth – the magic “pill” to reverse or prevent a significant portion of the aging process.

Many of the changes people experience as they age are due to a loss in muscle mass. So if we can maintain a significant amount of muscle tissue as we age, we can expect to age much more slowly.

Let’s look at some of the research and benefits of strength training:

Strength training will increase muscle endurance and strength, improve bone density and posture, boost your metabolism, increase functional capacity, improve your blood pressure and blood lipid levels, decrease joint pain and reduce your risk of falling. In addition, muscle looks good and can improve your overall self esteem and confidence. You’ll move with better strength, balance, coordination and agility and your performance in your recreational pursuits will be enhanced significantly. Read more on Yes. They Need To Lift Heavy…

Clients DO Have Time For a Workout!

Published on October 13, 2016 By Sherri

FullSizeRender 7One thing we’ve heard from many clients is how busy they are.  There just doesn’t seem to be enough time in a day to get everything done!  The good news? That’s exactly what you specialize in right?… helping really busy people commit to their health and fitness so they can look and feel their best.  Here are the tips we give clients when they are short on time, but still need to get a workout in:

Move Your Body:

Focus on increasing your overall activity more throughout the day.  If we all just took the stairs more than the elevator, parked further from our destination and walked to do errands, we wouldn’t have to spend hours in the gym!

Avoid Distractions:

We can’t tell you how many times we see gym-goers zoning out while watching TV or reading a magazine.  If you want to maximize your workouts, put away the books, magazines and distractions while working out so you can focus on what you’re doing and get in and out of the gym more quickly. setbacksNow, for the 8th Step: Don’t Let Set Backs Set You Back

Many people attempt goals but it seems like the ones who actually achieve their goals are those that keep going no matter how many times they fail or fall off track.  Perseverance is one of the keys to success at any initiative.

A short term effort is not going to get you where you ultimately want.  In order to achieve any goal, you must stick to your game plan on an ongoing, long-term, consistent basis.  Getting off track for a week is no big deal if you are consistent in your efforts.  But if you are regularly tempted away from your plan, you will not succeed.  Consistency and persistency are the keys to manifesting any goal.  Remember that if you want to be 10 pounds thinner 10 years from now, it is not what you do over the next eight weeks that matters,it is what you do over the next 10 years. Researchers have found only one characteristic common to those who succeed with goals including exercise.  All such people move towards their goal one step at a time.  They are committed to constant, never-ending improvement.  In practical terms, it means that regardless of anything else – busy work schedules, lack of energy, lack of time, feeling old, feeling lazy, hating exercise – they made no excuses!  They kept moving forward, taking their long-term goals and splitting them up into smaller goals.  They took it one day at a time.

Achieving Goals and Dream Life – Step Four

Realizing Potential

After working in the fitness industry for 25 years and helping people achieve their goals, I have discovered that there are common traits that exist between those who succeed and those who struggle.  So far we’ve shared how important it is for clients to write down their goals and action steps and create a map for their lives, the critical act of moving their bodies and last week, we reviewed the key to eating healthy so your clients can have the energy to reach for your dreams.

After all, what good is it to be achieving goals if you don’t feel good enough to enjoy your life!

Today, we move on to Step Four (SHARE WITH YOUR CLIENTS!!):

believe

Helping your clients realizing their potential.  Achieving dreams means you have to believe in yourself.  You can’t set self-imposed limits on who you are, who you can become and what you can do.  You’ve probably heard the saying:

“If you believe you can or believe you can’t, you’re right!”

Dreams happen first in the mind so if you dream small, you will achieve small but if you dream big, you will achieve big and great things!

I learned this lesson through one of my clients Rick Hansen, a famous Canadian.  When Rick was 16 years old, he was in a car accident and suffered a spinal cord injury losing the use of his legs.  Initially he Read more on Give Clients Their Dream Life – Step Four…
