Exceptional Customer Service – Every Time

February 20, 2020

Hopefully January and February have brought in new clients, brought back old clients and your current clients have renewed motivation to be fit and healthy. Now, lets keep them coming back to your fitness business all year long! One of the most important actions you and your staff can take is to ensure exceptional customer service….every single time your clients walk through your doors!

Remind your customer service reps and your staff that their #1 responsibility during their shift is to exceed customer expectations. They should go out of their way to help clients. Do what they can to service them. Take initiative to take care of them.

Customer Service is all about the small stuff – the attention to details.

Be Prepared – Hone Your Skills…Now!

January 28, 2020

Last week I reviewed some of the best ways to set 2020 up for success.
This week, I will give you a few more tips on how being prepared and honing your skills will make the difference for your fitness business this year.

Be mentally & physically prepared to work hard

You might need to stay late, come in early, work on a weekend. You might be juggling multiple tasks. You might be doing things that aren’t part of your normal job responsibilities. You should be prepared to take phone calls, do tours and be really good at this. Be ready to find out what a clients’ needs are and to show them how you can help them. Be genuine and honest and highlight how much we will take care of them.

This is when people are thinking about getting back in shape. It’s just human nature that come January people are motivated to start working out and taking better care of themselves.

Remind Clients to Use Holiday Discounts

January 8, 2020

Did you send out a holiday card/eCard to your clients in 2019 or at the beginning of this year? If so, I hope you included a discount for your clients as a “gift” to them and a gift certificate they can give to a friend to receive some type of free and initial service with you.

What better way to keep your current clients coming back for more training and for getting quality word of mouth referrals?

Personal Trainers: Don’t Make This Mistake

January 2, 2020

The biggest mistake that I see trainers make in a first session with a new client is trying to fit way too much stuff into a one hour time period.

Inevitably they run over time and if they have another client waiting, they rush through or eliminate the most critical aspect of a first session, ‘Finalizing the Sale’.

Team Meetings: Schedule Them Now!

December 17, 2019

Team meetings are an important part of keeping your team informed about your business, they help you team get to know each other and they are a time to share ideas. If your fitness business is anything like ours….your staff is always coming and going and never on the same schedule. That means that many of our staff will not see each other throughout the month and we are certainly never all together at one time. That is why monthly team meetings are critical for our success.

I know that many fitness businesses struggle to get their staff to attend meetings.

Recognition Goes a Long Way

December 11, 2019

When I was awarded an industry award like IDEA Personal Trainer of the Year or CanFitPro presenter of the year, it was a highlight to my career. It was like the Oscars of the fitness industry.

To be recognized for your contributions provides such a strong sense of accomplishment.

Unfortunately, only one person wins these types of awards every year amongst the hundreds of thousands of trainers out there.

So in our business, at our annual Holiday party, we recognize our team with our own in-house award system that the whole team votes on. In addition, I consider client feedback too. So the votes are now in for our business…

Try A Holiday Student Special

December 2, 2019

Do you have clients who have college age kids or grand kids? Those students will be coming home for their holiday break soon. What better way for your clients to spend quality time with their students then to work out together while they are home on break? Try offering a student discount during December and/or January.

It is a win/win/win for everyone! Your clients and their students get quality time together for a discounted rate, both your clients and the students will stay fit and healthy over the winter break and your business could pick up during the typically slower months of the year!
