Your Clients Can Run Faster!

July 10, 2018

Have clients who want to train to be faster runners? Here are some tips and tricks that I use with my clients (and for my own training).

First, if you want to get fast, you have to train fast.

Makes sense right?  The good news is though, not every workout needs to be a hard, speed workout. Make sure, when building your client’s workout schedule…to incorporate a faster run/walk just 1-2 times per week. Your clients will start to notice that they are running (or walking) faster in no time! The first goal is for clients to improve their leg turnover speed and get their muscles accustomed to contracting more quickly.

July 6, 2018

Fit pros. If your clients are like ours….they like to be outside spending time with friends and family over the summer. The combination of all the summer fun and the fact that we just ran two specials for personal training packages means typically slower July & August for us. Revenue and clients tend to be down during this part of the year.

Not to worry! We have ways to combat this slower season. Read more on 5 Ways To Get Their Attention This Summer…

Barefoot Clients? Recommend This…..

June 26, 2018

Barefoot running has become very popular. Do you have clients that have tried it? Do you recommend barefoot running? While I believe in the importance of strengthening our feet and letting our toes spread out like they were designed to do…we have to be careful when recommending that our clients start running “barefoot.”

The bottom line is that our feet need to be strengthened just like any other part of our body, but running barefoot should be approached carefully and bit by bit. Read more on Barefoot Clients? Recommend This……..

Large Group Training – You Got This

June 19, 2018

I have shared many of my small group training tips with you, but today I want to focus on large group training. We have recently had some very large boot camp groups. Here are the strategies I use to ensure everyone gets an effective workout, things run smoothly and everyone stays safe.

When you have that large of a group, you need to consider the types of exercise, equipment, sequencing and how to divide the group so it’s not pure chaos. I choose to keep it really simple and perform mostly body weight exercises.

Generate Revenue With a Running Program

June 14, 2018
Consider this. With each running stride, your body is forced to absorb impact forces as great as 3x your body weight. So if you weigh 150 pounds, imagine 450 pounds of force pounding through your muscles, bones, ligaments and tendons with each foot strike. You can imagine that over the course of a five-mile run, the amount of force the body absorbs is tremendous. Due to the nature of the sport, specific imbalances and areas of weakness can result. For these reasons, proper progression is critical if you expect to continue running on a long-term basis.

Going Outside With Clients? Play It Safe.

June 5, 2018

It is that time of year when many personal trainers and group exercise instructors start taking their clients outside for workouts. Clients love getting the fresh air and trainers can keep things interesting with TONS of new exercises and adventures in the great outdoors. We have a couple protocols when it comes to bringing clients away from the studio for workouts and I recent sent them this email as a reminder:

“Great weather has arrived in the Pacific Northwest and many of you want to take your clients outside for workouts. I love that! Read more on Going Outside With Clients? Play It Safe….

Personal Trainers: Employees vs. Independent Contractors?

May 21, 2018

One of the MOST common questions we get from fitness business owners/managers and from those who have purchased our Business of Personal Training System  is “Should I have Independent Contractors or Employees?”

Here is my answer….

Reviewing the history of the personal training industry, pretty much all of us started as independent contractors operating our personal training businesses within existing health and fitness clubs. Slowly over the years, many of these facilities decided to bring the training department in-house and make all their trainers employees. Why would they do this?
